چکیده

Measurements and calculations of Coulomb drag between two low density, closely spaced, two-dimensional electron systems are reported. The experimentally measured drag exceeds that calculated in the random phase approximation by a significant, and density dependent, factor. Studies of the dependence of the measured drag on the difference in density between the two layers clearly demonstrate that previously ignored q 1⁄4 2kF scattering processes can be very important to the drag at low densities and small layer separations. q 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. Coulomb Drag in the Extreme Quantum Limit

Coulomb drag resulting from interlayer electron-electron scattering in double layer 2D electron systems in a high magnetic field has been measured. Within the lowest Landau level the observed drag resistance exceeds its zero magnetic value by factors of typically 1000. At half-filling of the lowest Landau level in each layer (n 1y2) the data suggest that our bilayer systems are much more stro...

Single Particle versus Collective Electronic Excitations 1 Philip

As a rst approximation, a metal can be modelled as an electron gas. A non-interacting electron gas has a continuous spectrum of electron-hole pair excitations. At each wavevector ~ Q with j~ Qj less than the maximum Fermi surface spanning vector (2kF ) there is a continuous set of electron-hole pair states, with a maximum energy but no gap (the minimum energy is zero.) Once the Coulomb interact...

This review article is about the role of electron-electron interactions in low dimensional systems and its transport properties in nano-structures. It begins with a review of the pair-distribution function theory of electron liquid systems taking into account the electron-electron interactions. We extend the theory for highly correlated system such two- and one-dimensional electron liquids. We...

Coulomb drag in intermediate magnetic fields

We theoretically investigated the Coulomb drag effect in coupled two-dimensional electron gases in a wide interval of magnetic field and temperature 1/t!vc!EF /\ , T!EF , t being the intralayer scattering time and vc the cyclotron frequency. We show that quantization of the electron spectrum leads to rich parametric dependences of the drag transresistance on the temperature and magnetic field. ...

Coulomb drag by small momentum transfer between quantum wires.

We demonstrate that in a wide range of temperatures Coulomb drag between two weakly coupled quantum wires is dominated by processes with a small interwire momentum transfer. Such processes, not accounted for in the conventional Luttinger liquid theory, cause drag only because the electron dispersion relation is not linear. The corresponding contribution to the drag resistance scales with temper...
